Career Recap: Austin Peay
As a senior in 2012 – Childress appeared in 60 games, starting 55, and batted .247 with nine home runs and 26 RBI... was ranked among Division I hitters in both walks (51st, 41) and times hit by pitch (59th, 16)... finished career ranked eighth in times hit by a pitch (25), including his single-season record-tying 16 this season... was 2-for-2 in first game of Illinois State doubleheader, Feb. 18...had hits in back-to-back outings - was 1-for-4 with a three-run home run at Georgia State, Feb. 24 after a 1-for-4 outing in series finale against Illinois State, Feb. 19... was 1-for-3 with RBI and stolen base against Youngstown State, March 2... suffered through stretch of five games (13 ABs) without a base hit March 3-11... recorded first hit since March 2 in 1-for-4 outing at Memphis, March 13... started first two games of Ohio State series, going 0-for-3 in opener and 1-for-2 in second game... hit grand slam and had a sacrifice fly in 1-for-4, five RBI outing against Alabama A&M, March 27... had a pinch-hit two-run home run to deepest part of Raymond C. Hand Park in UTM series opener... was 2-for-3 in Game 2... had a solo home run and two-run single in Game 3 of UT Martin set... drove average up to .210 with impressive Week 7 effort that saw him named adidas® OVC Co-Player of the Week, April 2, after posting six hits, three HR and 10 RBI... had one hit in two-game EIU series, entering Game 1 in the 6th inning and hitting a 12th-inning single before being held hitless (4 AB) in Game 2 of series... was twice hit by pitch against Middle Tennessee, April 11, but had a 7th-inning double in 1-for-2, two-runs scored outing... had a home run in each game of the Murray State series, including a walk-off home run in Game 2, April 14... was 2-for-2 with RBI, a walk and was hit by pitch at Middle Tennessee, April 18... had two hits and two walks in Eastern Kentucky series... had a two-run ninth-inning double at Tennessee, April 24, finishing night 1-for-5 with two RBI... had a hit in Jacksonville State series opener, April 27, but did not record a hit in series final two games, walking once in each contest... recorded a hit in each game of SIU Edwardsville series, May 4-6, and had a double and four walks... did not record an official at-bat against Lipscomb, May 8, walking twice and was hit by a pitch in three plate appearances... one of his two hits against Morehead State was a two-run home run in Game 2... was held to two hits in Morehead State series, but was walked four times and hit by a pitch once to post team-best .583 on-base percentage... tied career high with three-hit outing at Belmont, May 15... one of two hits at TTU was a Game 2, third-inning, two-run home run... had two hits, two walks and was hit by a pitch twice to post .429 on-base percentage in Tennessee Tech series, May 17-19... walked in final plate appearance in Govs loss to Southeast Missouri, May 24, and later scored Govs third run... did not reach base against Jacksonville State, May 25, ending a streak of 24 games reaching base safely... first career triple came in 2-for-2, two-run scored outing against Southeast Missouri, May 26... reached base four times (2 HBP and 2 BBs) and scored twice despite only one official at-bat in championship-round opening win against Eastern Illinois, May 26... second career triple led off eighth inning and he later scored for key third run in OVC championship-clinching win, Sunday... recorded first career triples at OVC tournament and finished with a .286 batting average (4-of-14) with six walks and three times hit by pitch to post a .565 on-base percentage... batted .273 during NCAA Tournament's Eugene Regional with a hit in first three games while also recording four walks (.467 on-base percentage).
As a junior transfer in 2011 –
Childress started 40 games (18 at DH, 22 in LF)… batted .241 with two home runs and 21 RBI… had more success in OVC play, posting .306 batting average with two home runs and 12 RBI… was 1-for-5 with two RBI against Valparaiso, Feb.  19… went 1-for-2 with a double against Illinois State, Feb.  26… had a hit and RBI in back-to-back games – Eastern Michigan, March 4, and Alabama A&M, March 6… began season with five-game hit streak… Govs starting designated hitter in two of three Arkansas State games, finished series 1-for-9… started two of three Illinois State contests at DH, batting in one of Govs’ two runs in series finale… hit first collegiate home run in OVC opener at Murray State, March 27, a two-run blast that provided insurance in the win, and finished doubleheader 3-for-6 with a double and the home run… had seven hits and six RBI in EIU series, batting in Govs first five runs in series finale, April 3… was 2-for-5 with two RBI at Middle Tennessee, April 6… saw a hit streak stopped at seven games in Eastern Kentucky series finale while posting two hits in series… was 1-for-2 with three BBs and one RBI in Game 2 of Morehead State series, including bases-loaded walk in sixth inning that moved Govs to within run of tying game… was 2-for-4 in Game 3 of Tennessee Tech series, May 8, including two stolen bases; it was his first multi-hit outing since April 6… ended a four-game hitless stretch with 1-for-4 outing in Game 2 of UT Martin series, May 20… had a hit in first two games of OVC tournament… was 1-for-3 and had RBI double against Tennessee Tech, May 26, that provided game-winning run… also was 1-for-3 against Jacksonville State, May 27… did not have a hit in three plate appearances in NCAA Tournament’s Atlanta Regional.

Under head coach Robert White played first base… batted .393 with eight home runs and 36 RBI…received second-team all-conference…prepped at Dyersburg High School, where he was a two-time district MVP and currently holds the school’s career RBI record.

James Tyler Childress is the son of Bobby Childress and Pam Reasons… born Feb.  5… has an older brother, Brad (27)… a health and human performance major with a non-teaching concentration with a physical education minor.
