Brian Netzler returns for his third season as head coach Taylor Mott’s assistant coach and his fourth consecutive season as an assistant coach at the Division I level.

The Lady Govs recruiting coordinator, Netzler had a hand in bringing six new faces to the 2015 roster in his first recruiting campaign. He also has assisted in the Lady Govs match planning and has helped the Lady Govs make three consecutive OVC Volleyball Championship appearances and post its first-ever victory against Tennessee.

In addition, Netzler aids in player development of Austin Peay’s volleyball program. Under his tutelage, Ashley Slay was a 2014 OVC All-Newcomer selection and Jada Stotts received 2014 All-OVC recognition.

Before joining the Mississippi staff, Netzler spent four seasons (2009-12) at Division II Grand Valley State, the women’s volleyball program accumulated an 81-41 overall mark and a 52-20 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Lakers advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times (2009, ’10, ’12), including an NCAA Elite Eight berth in 2010. While with GVSU, Netlzer helped coach two All-America selections, three all-region picks, a Midwest Region Player of the Year and 12 all-conference selections, including a Freshman of the Year honoree.

Netzler began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Grand Rapids Community College in 2008. He helped lead the team to a perfect record (14-0) in conference play, its second regional title in school history and a berth in that season’s NJCAA National Tournament. Netzler helped train three all-region players, including GRCC’s first-ever first-team All-American.

Netzler also was a coach with the Michigan Volleyball Academy since its inception in 2007. He served as the academy’s its private lesson coordinator and created practice plans and oversaw practices for the 12-17-year-old teams. In seven seasons with MVA, Netzler coached teams to national top 10 finishes each season, including the MVA 15-Black team which won the Junior Volleyball Directors Association National Championship in the spring 2010. He began his coaching career as a coach for high school programs at Fruitport, Forest Hills Northern and Mona Shores in Michigan.

Netzler graduated from Grand Valley State in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in movement science. He played club volleyball while a student at Grand Valley State and was a member of that program’s first-ever conference title and a top 25 ranking in 2007.a
