Clarksville, Tenn. – Junior middle blocker Ashley Slay, of the Austin Peay State University volleyball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Slay earned national recognition for her work in Austin Peay’s road wins at Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville, tallying 37 total kills to move the Govs to the top of the Ohio Valley Conference standings.

A Nashville native, Slay posted 15 kills and a sparkling .414 attack percentage to sweep the Panthers, Friday. She followed that with a career-high 22 kills in a five-set win at SIUE, Saturday, chipping in 11 digs for her second double-double in 2016.

Her 22 kills were the most by an APSU player since Jada Stott's 22 kills against Montana State in September 2015. It also was the most kills by a Governors middle blocker since Laura Wussow's 22-kill effort against Southeast Missouri in 2005. In addition, Slay also had the most kills by a Governors player in an OVC contest since Nikki Doyle's 25-kill effort at Eastern Illinois in 2012.

Slay brought home lots of hardware for her work last week—she was named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Monday, bringing Austin Peay’s weekly awards total from the conference office to five in 2016, and then became the first APSU volleyball player in program history to earn Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week honors, Tuesday.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Sophomore Taylor Goodley, of the women’s golf team, earned adidas® OVC Female co-Golfer of the Week honors after taking runner-up at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, Tuesday, at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson. Her final-round 73 was the best score posted over the final 18 holes.
  • Junior keeper Lindsey Todd, of the soccer team, posted seven total saves and earned shutouts of Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee Tech last week to keep the Governors unbeaten in conference play in 2016.
  • Junior receiver Kyran Moore, of the football team, scored twice and had seven total catches for 96 yards at UT Martin, Saturday.
  • Sophomore Lidia Yanes Garcia, of the women’s tennis team, won Flight One at the USC Upstate Invitational, opening with a three-set win against ETSU’s Marina Guinart (4-6, 6-2, 6-4) before defeating Upstate’s Filippa Ericson (6-4, 6-3) and Presbyterian’s Beth Taylor (6-2, 6-0) in straight sets.
