CLARKSVILLE – Junior Terry Taylor, of the Austin Peay men's basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

A native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Taylor was one of the biggest factors in Austin Peay's 2-0 start to Ohio Valley Conference play. After finishing the non-league slate with 18 points and nine boards at Georgia—becoming the 13th active Division I player with 1500 points and 700 rebounds in his career, and the only junior to hit that milestone—he turned his attention to the league. Against Southeast Missouri, he tied Jordyn Adams with a game-high 22 points, including a team season-high four threes, and 11 boards then followed that with a monster 32-point, 12-rebound effort against UT Martin. He closed on a tear against the Skyhawks, with 15 points from the 9:30 mark in the second half until he was removed with just under three minutes to play with his 30th career double-double.

Taylor's typical video game numbers for the week were 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 55.8 percent shooting, 41.7 percent from three and 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Athletic Communications staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Kenisha Phillips, of the Austin Peay women’s track and field team, was named OVC track Athlete of the Week. The freshman from Georgetown, Guyana, has shown potential of being an exceptional talent in her first two meets, winning 60m at the Saluki Fast Start and the 200m at the Ed Temple Classic. Her performance in Carbondale equaled the school record, while her outing at the Ed Temple was one-tenth of a second away from being a program indoor top-10 time. She leads the Ohio Valley Conference in both events.
  • Maya Perry-Grimes, of the Austin Peay women’s track and field team, was named OVC Field Athlete of the Week. The senior from Antioch, Tennessee, did the work during the holiday break to stay ready, and it showed at the Ed Temple Classic, where she equaled her indoor career-best in the triple jump (12.25m) and set a career-indoor best in the long jump (5.76m), winning the former and coming in second in the latter event. She leads the OVC in both disciplines entering the weekend.
  • Arielle Gonzalez-Varner, of the Austin Peay women’s basketball team, nearly averaged a double-double in the first week of Ohio Valley Conference action. The senior from the Queen City posted 15 points and nine rebounds in the OVC opener against Southeast Missouri. In the second game of the week, Gonzalez-Varner exploded for a season-high 22 points against UT Martin. For the week, Gonzalez-Varner averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 68.2 percent from the floor.
