Clarksville, Tenn. – Senior center Tearra Banks, of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Banks had a memorable week, scoring her 1,000th career point in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s contest against Western Kentucky, scoring 15 points overall against the Hilltoppers. In Wednesday’s comeback win against East Tennessee, the Louisville native scored 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting, her ninth career 20-point game.
The week resulted in Banks’ first career adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honor, the first by a Gov since Tiasha Gray won for Feb. 16, 2016. Banks had previously won three OVC Freshman of the Week honors.
The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:
- Senior John Murry, of the men’s basketball team, exceeded 20 points in both outings last week, scoring a career-best 25 against Fort Wayne and adding a game-high 23 points at Arkansas. He hit 62.1 percent (18-of-29) from the floor.
- Freshman Maya Perry-Grimes, of the track and field team, took home runner-up honors in the triple jump at her first collegiate indoor meet with a 12.25m (40-2.25) mark at the Vanderbilt Indoor Opener, which bettered any mark put forth in the event by a Gov last season. She also finished 10th in the 60m dash at 7.87.
