Clarksville, Tenn. – Sophomore forward Claire Larose, of the Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Larose scored both goals for the Govs to open Ohio Valley Conference play, posting a game-tying 61st-minute goal against Belmont, Friday, and scoring the lone goal in the 18th minute to secure first-year head coach Naomi Kolarova’s first OVC win.

The London, Ontario native is now second in the league with five goals this season; her efforts in the opening weekend of league play earned the first OVC Offensive Player of the Week honor in her career, and the second week in a row a Governor has taken league Offensive Player of the Week honors.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Junior tailback Kentel Williams, of the football team, needed just 12 touches to roll up 270 all-purpose yards (181 rushing, 80 return, 9 receiving) and four total touchdowns in Austin Peay’s record-breaking win at Morehead State, Saturday.
  • Freshman Taylor Dedmen, of the women’s golf team, placed fifth with a 229 (79-77-73) at the Greenbrier Invitational, becoming the first Austin Peay freshman to earn a top-five finish since Taylor Goodley took third at the 2015 F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate as an individual and the first to earn back-to-back top-20s to open her career since Monica Storey in 2005. Her final-round 73 marked her third 73 in just six rounds of competitive golf at Austin Peay; she’s the first Gov with at least three rounds of 73 or lower as a freshman since Staci Lynch (6) in 2006-07.
  • Senior setter Kristen Stucker, of the volleyball team, averaged 11.07 assists per set, totaling 155 for the week to pilot the Govs to a .246 attack percentage and a 3-1 record and an upset of SEC foe Ole Miss, incwhich she posted 44 assists. She earned her third OVC Setter of the Week honor in four weeks this season, and a league-record 17th time overall.
  • Freshman Maisie Lay, of the women’s cross country team, placed eighth among individuals at the Rhodes Invitational with a 23:15.00 run, propelling the Govs to a sixth-place finish in the 20-team event.
  • Junior defensive end Jaison Williams, of the football team, wreaked havoc against Morehead State with 3.5 tackles for loss (one sack) among his seven total tackles against the Eagles.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Moore, of the volleyball team, tallied a total of 58 kills in four matches last week, posting 14 kills and a season-high 24 digs against SEC foe Ole Miss and followed that with a 21-kill outing against McNeese, helping her earn OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
  • Senior Lidia Yanes Garcia, of the women’s tennis team, won the singles title of the Flight A draw at the 2018 APSU Fall Invitational, defeating Central Arkansas’s Fuka Nonoyama (6-4, 6-3) in the quarterfinals, Murray State’s Anastassiya Sharapova (6-3, 6-0) in the semifinals and teammate Fabienne Schmidt (6-4) to claim the title.
