Clarksville, Tenn.– Senior pole vaulter Dascha Hix, of the Austin Peay State University track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Hix reached a long-sought after mark last week at the Thundering Herd Invitational in Huntington, West Virginia. The Fort Campbell native posted the first 4.00m mark of her career to take the top spot in Marshall’s home meet, ascending not only to the top of the Ohio Valley Conference pole vault leaderboard but all the way to 43rd nationally as the season gets set to enter its final month.

Her work in West Virginia earned Hix her first career OVC Field Athlete of the Week honor and the fourth straight for an Austin Peay student-athlete; it marked the first time a single program has been involved in four or more consecutive female Athlete of the Week honors in track or field since Eastern Kentucky won five consecutive Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors in 2012.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Sophomore forward Terry Taylor, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 18.5 points and 9.0 rebounds for the Govs last week, putting up a 14-point, 10-rebound performance against Tennessee State and following that with 23 points against Belmont.
  • Junior Tatiana Lopez, of the women’s tennis team, teamed with Honoka Nakanishi for an easy 6-1 No. 2 doubles win against Western Kentucky and then swept Judit Gonzalez Agud 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles in Austin Peay’s sweep of the Hilltoppers, Saturday.
  • Junior guard Nieja Crawford, of the women’s basketball team, was a spark off the bench for the Govs last week, scoring 10 points and pulling down six boards in the Governors 74-47 win against Tennessee State and then leading the Govs with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting against perennial league favorite Belmont, Saturday.
  • Junior sprinter Tymeitha Tolbert, of the track and field team, overcame illness to not only win the 60m dash at the Thundering Herd Invitational last weekend, she posted a 7.57 mark in the finals which was just two-hundredths of a second off her school record in the event.
