Clarksville, Tenn. – Senior center Chris Horton, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Horton earned 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament MVP honors after averaging 22.5 points and 14.0 rebounds in the Governors four wins en route to their fifth OVC Tournament Championship.

Although Horton’s numbers were tempered a bit after he went down with injury during the Championship contest, he gamely plowed ahead against UT Martin and built off career-highs in points (37) and rebounds (21) in the opening-round contest against Tennessee Tech and a 30-point, 16-rebound performance against OVC Player of the Year Evan Bradds in the semifinal against Belmont.

Horton and the Governors now await their place in the NCAA Tournament, which will be announced during Sunday’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Selection Show.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Junior first baseman Dre Gleason, of the baseball team, hit .462 (6-of-14) with three home runs and six RBI in four contests last week, homering in each game of the Mercer series over the weekend.
  • Senior sprinter Kymmalett Ross, of the track and field team, won the 55m dash with a school-record 6.94 mark at the OVC Indoor Championships, followed that with another school-record 24.24 to take silver in the 200m and ended her stay at Tennessee State with a silver medal from the Governors school-record 3:45.58 run in the 4x400m relays.
  • Freshman third baseman Danielle Liermann, of the softball team, hit .353 (6-of-17) with a home run against ninth-ranked Georgia and six RBI over five games at last weekend’s 13th Annual Georgia Softball Classic.
