Clarksville, Tenn. – Senior center Chris Horton, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Horton took home adidas/Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball Player of the Week, Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week and Mid-Major Madness Player of the Week after a record-setting performance at Lipscomb.Horton converted 16-of-17 shots against the Bisons, scoring a career-best 37 points to go with 13 rebounds. He made his first 14 shots before Lipscomb's J.J. Butler blocked him from behind with 1:13 left in the game. Horton then finished with two slam dunks off passes from Khalil Davis.

Horton's 94 percent shooting is the highest field-goal percentage by a player with a minimum of 15 attempts over the last five seasons.

Those 37 points represented APSU's best single-game scoring performance since Drake Reed had 37 points against Eastern Illinois, Dec. 6, 2008. It was APSU's first 30-point game effort since Travis Betran had 32 in the 2013-14 season finale at UT Martin.

He followed that up with 20 points and 13 rebounds in the Govs win against Wofford, with his eighth rebound in that contest making him just the second player in APSU history with 1,000 career rebounds.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Senior guard Tiasha Gray, of the women's basketball team, led all scorers with 27 points at ETSU, including the 1500th of her career--she became the fifth APSU women's basketball player to reach that milestone.
