Clarksville, Tenn.– Sophomore forward Terry Taylor, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Taylor led the Govs to a pair of crucial Ohio Valley Conference wins last week to help Austin Peay pull into a tie atop the league. He scored a game-high 18 points with eight rebounds against Tennessee Tech, scoring eight straight points early in the second half to help Austin Peay grow its lead to 20. He was a beast against Jacksonville State, with a game-high 30 points—his 10th straight double-digit effort—and found Jabari McGhee to set up his three-point play with 21 seconds to play against the Gamecocks.
For the week, the Bowling Green native averaged 24.0 points on 56.3 percent (18-of-32) shooting, pulling down 7.0 rebounds and chipping in with 1.5 steals. His work earned him OVC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, his third weekly honor by the league for the 2018-19 campaign.
The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:
- Freshman Kyra Wilder, of the track and field team, earned her first career 400m dash victory at the Purdue-hosted Fred Wilt Open, running 58.42 in her first 400m attempt as a Governor.
- Senior Helena Kuppig, of the women’s tennis team, was practically unblemished in wins against Carson-Newman and Cumberland, dropping just seven sets across two matches.
