Clarksville, Tenn.– Senior pitcher Morgan Rackel, of the Austin Peay State University softball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
The Calgary native opened her week with a three-hit, complete-game shutout of McNeese State, but she carved her name into Austin Peay lore in Game Two. That’s when she tossed 16 innings and 217 pitches, striking out 16 batters—all school records—to help the Govs hang on for a 2-1 win against the Cowgirls.
Overall, Rackel had a 0.30 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 23 innings while holding McNeese to a .198 team batting average and giving up just one run to the Cowgirls over that span. For her efforts, she earned her third career Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honor from the league office.
The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
