Clarksville, Tenn.– Senior pitcher Morgan Rackel, of the Austin Peay State University softball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Calgary native opened her week with a three-hit, complete-game shutout of McNeese State, but she carved her name into Austin Peay lore in Game Two. That’s when she tossed 16 innings and 217 pitches, striking out 16 batters—all school records—to help the Govs hang on for a 2-1 win against the Cowgirls.

Overall, Rackel had a 0.30 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 23 innings while holding McNeese to a .198 team batting average and giving up just one run to the Cowgirls over that span. For her efforts, she earned her third career Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honor from the league office.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Senior Savannah Amato, of the track and field team, won her sixth consecutive pole vault gold medal (three indoor, three outdoor) with a 4.02m mark at the 2019 OVC Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
  • Senior guard Zach Glotta, of the men’s basketball team, had a Senior Night for the ages against UT Martin, setting career-highs in points (26) and three-pointers (eight) to lead the Govs to a 92-78 win against the Skyhawks.
  • Junior utility man Parker Phillips, of the baseball team, slugged three homers in Austin Peay’s 15-3 drubbing of Northern Illinois, Sunday. The Collierville native picked up a hit in all three games last week, bumping his season average up to .350.
  • Senior guard Keisha Gregory, of the women’s basketball team, averaged 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and two steals for the Govs last week, scoring a team-high 19 points on Senior Night against UT Martin.
