Clarksville, Tenn.–Senior utility player Morgan Rackel, of the Austin Peay State University softball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

After earning two Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honors this season, Rackel earned her first career Hitter of the Week honor after hitting .462 (6-of-13) with three home runs, a double, five runs scored and nine RBI. She tied the second game against Belmont with a home run and put the Govs ahead for good with her second blast of the contest in the sixth inning.

The Calgary native slashed .462/1.231/.500 for the week, becoming the third player in program history to earn OVC Pitcher and Player of the Week honors from the conference (Lauren de Castro, Natasha Anderson). She was pretty good in the circle as well, winning both starts and tossing a one-hitter against Tennessee State, striking out nine Tigers for her season’s 14th win.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Senior pitcher Jacques Pucheu, of the baseball team, struck out 11 over eight innings against Belmont, scattering four hits and one run against the Bruins. The Gulfport, Mississippi native retired 12 straight batters to earn his season’s second OVC Pitcher of the Week honor, the third straight for the Austin Peay pitching staff.
  • Senior Lidia Yanes Garcia, of the women’s tennis team, defeated Jacksonville State’s Alessia Locati 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and partnered with sister Claudia for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles to help the Govs remain unbeaten (14-0) this season.
  • Sophomore Chase Korte, of the men’s golf team, placed third at the Wofford Invitational with a 211 (68-69-74); his finish was the best by a Gov this season, aided by a team-high 16 birdies.
  • Sophomore Caroline Waite and junior MiMi Arrington, of the beach volleyball team, won all four matches as a duo at No. 5 last week against Morehead State and North Alabama, including a 23-21, 23-21 in the second match against the Eagles.
