Clarksville, Tenn.–Freshman designated hitter Matt Joslin, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Columbia, Tennessee native has collected a number of big hits in his young Austin Peay career, but last week saw him burst into the national consciousness by earning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week and was among the selections for Collegiate Baseball’s National Players of the Week—all three career firsts for the young slugger.

For the week, Joslin hit .667 (6-for-9) with a .750 on-base percentage and 1.444 slugging percentage (combining for a 2.194 OPS i.e. on-base plus slugging percentage) and a game-tying single in the middle contest against UT Martin. But the story were the two grand slams he hit—one as part of a 4-for-6, 7-RBI effort in the finale against the Skyhawks, the other a walk-off pinch-hit blast to lift the Govs over Southern Illinois.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Senior Lidia Yanes Garcia, of the women’s tennis team, earned her fourth career OVC Player of the Week honor and her first in 2019 after helping the Govs dismantle Murray State and Belmont last week. Against the Racers, she coasted to a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles against Stasya Sharapova, then picked up career singles victory No. 99 against the Bruins with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Peyton Lee to help the Govs clinch their first regular season championship since 1989 and complete their unbeaten regular season.
  • Sophomore Chase Korte, of the men’s golf team, turned in a sterling final-round effort at the 2019 OVC Men’s Golf Championships, going five-under on the last 15 holes to finish five-under for the tournament at 211 (69-73-69), tying for fifth as an individual to earn Austin Peay’s first All-Tournament honor since 2015.
