Clarksville, Tenn.– Freshman Kyra Wilder, of the Austin Peay State University track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
At the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Wilder helped tally 28 of Austin Peay’s third-place 116 points, earning four medals in the process. As an individual, she snared bronze in both the 100m (12.12) and 200m (24.75) dashes, posting a season-best 24.27 mark in the 200m preliminaries. She earned another bronze in the 4x100m relay, running the second leg of the event, and wrapped up her first outdoor championship appearance by running the second leg of the 4x400m relay team to earn gold.
The day before the championships, Wilder earned OVC Outdoor Freshman of the Year honors, joining Morgan Bradley (2018 Outdoor) and Maya Perry-Grimes (2017 Indoor) as current Govs to earn Freshman of the Year honors.
The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:
- Sophomore outfielder Bailey Shorter, of the softball team, earned an All-OVC Tournament nod after hitting a team-high .375 with a .583 on-base percentage over four games, scoring three runs for the Govs against Belmont, Jacksonville State, Murray State and Eastern Kentucky.
- Senior outfielder Aaron Campbell, of the baseball team, earned OVC Player of the Week honors for his 10-RBI weekend against Eastern Illinois to help set up a winner-take-all showdown against Jacksonville State for the regular season championship. The Ellendale, Tennessee native hit .692 for the week, then went 4-for-5 with four more RBI in Tuesday’s 20-12 win against Western Kentucky.
