Clarksville, Tenn. – Junior center Chris Horton, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Horton turned in the first triple-double by a Gov since 2001 – and just the 10th in Ohio Valley Conference history – when he posted 15 points, 13 rebounds and a school-record 10 blocked shots in the Govs’ 68-63 home-opening win against Berea, Sunday. He was at his best in the second half against the Mountaineers, scoring 13 points, pulling down eight boards and blocking eight shots over the final 20 minutes to lead the Govs back from a 17-point deficit.

The Decatur, Ga., native also led the Govs in scoring in the season-opener at Western Kentucky, Saturday, with 15 points to go along with four blocks. He held George Fant – a preseason All-Conference USA selection for the Hilltoppers – to just six points and five rebounds on the evening.

For his efforts, Horton earned adidas® OVC co-Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, Monday – the second of his career.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Senior middle blocker Hillary Plybon, of the volleyball team, led the Lady Govs in kills in both matches last week, including a season-high 16 in Austin Peay’s five-set loss at Eastern Kentucky on the regular season’s final day.
  • Sophomore safety Damien Whitfield, of the football team, returned an interception 12 yards for the Govs lone touchdown in Saturday’s loss at Southeast Missouri. Whitfield also added eight tackles, second-most on the team.
  • Senior forward Chris Freeman, of the men’s basketball team, led the Govs with a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds – his third career double-double – against Berea.
  • Junior guard Tiasha Gray, of the women’s basketball team, scored a career-high 37 points on 11-for-23 shooting to go along with seven rebounds and four steals in the Lady Govs season-opener against Wright State, Friday.
