Clarksville, Tenn. – Freshman McKenzie Dixon, of the Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Dixon earned the third adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor in her young career after netting three goals last week to move the Lady Govs to 2-1 in 2015 OVC play. The Bentonville, Arkansas native got the game-winner in both contests, and now has three game-winning goals among her eight total tallies in 2015.
In Friday’s contest against Southeast Missouri, Dixon’s 59th-minute tally proved to be all Austin Peay would need in a 2-0 win. Sunday, the striker’s pair of second-half goals included the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute and a little breathing room in the 85th minute in the second multi-goal game of her collegiate career.
Dixon becomes the first Lady Gov to claim three weekly OVC awards in the same year. In addition, she is the second player to have three or more overall with Tatiana Ariza winning four Player of the Week awards throughout her four seasons.
The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:
- Redshirt freshman running back Kendall Morris, of the football team, had a career-best 141 yards on 25 carries (5.6 ypc) against Eastern Illinois, including a 74-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
- Sophomore Martin Rejman, of the men’s cross country team, finished 33rd with a 25:42.25 mark in the men’s Blue Race, leading the Governors to an 18th-place team finish.
