CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University's wrapped up its Ohio Valley Conference schedule playing to a 1-1 tie with Eastern Kentucky, Sunday, on Senior Day. Neither the Lady Govs (6-12-1, 0-8-1 OVC) nor the Colonels (3-12-3, 2-6-1 OVC) qualified for the 2007 OVC Soccer Tournament.
Eastern Kentucky outshot Austin Peay 22-17, including a 7-4 advantage in the overtimes. Junior Ashley Beck led all players with 10 shots, four on goal, while EKU's Kayla Swearingen had a team-best five shots. Austin Peay senior keeper Brooke Abrahams drew the start and finished with a season-best eight saves. Stephanie Lynch made six stops for Eastern Kentucky.
Beck scored the game's first goal in the 57th minute. Senior Jessica Hosse corralled the ball at midfield and delivered a pass to Beck inside the box. She dribbled down to pull out the EKU keeper and punch it past for a 1-0 lead.
The Colonels created their opportunity fewer than 10 minutes later. Alex Hartwick, who came off the bench, ended up with a one-on-one situation between her and the goal. She juked the defender and fired a shot to tie the score.
The first overtime period was even as both teams had three shots with one on goal. Beck had two shots in the period ? Lynch made a save on the first while the second rocked the crossbar and flew high. In the second overtime, Eastern Kentucky had four shots, one on goal, but Abrahams came up the stop to preserve the tie.
Austin Peay finishes it's OVC schedule without a win for the second time in program history. The Lady Govs close out their schedule with a 7 p.m., Tuesday road match at Division II North Alabama.
