CHARLESTON, Ill. ? Austin Peay State University women's soccer team failed to score a goal in the second-straight game, losing 2-0 at Eastern Illinois in the last leg of an Ohio Valley Conference weekend, Sunday. The Panthers overwhelmed the Lady Govs on all fronts, Sunday. They dominated both offensively ? outshooting Austin Peay 20-7 ? and defensively ? holding a 17-7 fouls advantage and holding Austin Peay to only two corner kicks.
The game's first goal came only three minutes into the game. It was EIU's first real scoring chance as Caitlyn Eisenhauer dropped a short ball to Michelle Steinhaus, which she bounced in off the left goal post for a quick 1-0 lead. Steinhaus finished with a game high two shots on goal for EIU. Alexis Miller netted the insurance goal in the 74th minute on a corner kick that got by the keeper.
Sophomore keeper Michelle Smith finished with five saves ? all in the first half. Junior Elyse Lovelace had a team-best three shots, while four other Lady Govs had a shot. Only freshman Monique Wong and junior Ashley Michels put a shot a goal.
In addition to Steinhaus, who leads EIU with five goals, Rachel Hamilton had a game-high four shots. Four other Panthers had two or more shots. Keeper Jenny Williams earned her 12th career shutout, making a pair of stops in net.
Austin Peay returns to action with a 6 p.m., Tuesday, non-conference tilt with Lambuth at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.
