CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University's rushing game excelled but the passing game struggled in the Governors second scrimmage, Monday afternoon.
In fact, senior-to-be Chris Fletcher demonstrated his 1,000-yard rushing form by carrying the ball eight times for 82 yards, including a 52-yard run. Spencer Guilmire also broke free for a 34-yard run while fellow sophomore Otis Spivey displayed workhorse abilities by carrying the ball 16 times for 45 yards, including some tough short-yardage gains.
Although the running game rolled up 224 yards, the passing game managed just 11 completions in 32 attempts for 167 yards, with almost half coming on a Mark Cunningham-to-Logan Newkirk completion that covered 86 yards. Defensively, LaDarius Davis and Jason Vanatta tallied interceptions.
The Governors third and final scrimmage will be held 1 p.m., Saturday in the Red-White game at Governors Stadium.
