CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Senior
Shawn Kelley has been named the Ohio Valley Conference's "Pitcher of the Week,"
the conference office announced, Monday.
Kelley recorded his second career shutout in the Govs lone victory last week, a 1-0 decision against Samford in the
conference-series opener between the two teams. The victory was a reversal of his fate one year ago against Samford
when he lost a 1-0 decision in Birmingham in extra innings. Kelley faced just five batters over the minimum (32 batters
faced), allowed only three runners to reach scoring position and only one of those reached scoring position with less than
two outs.
It is Kelley's first shutout since blanking UT Martin in a seven-inning affair during the 2005 season, a span of 28 starts
between shutouts. It also was his 12th career complete game and third this season. Kelley struck out four batters during
the contest, bringing his career strikeout total to 253, three shy of breaking the school record currently held by Rowdy
Hardy (255, 2004-06).
