Redhawks blank Lady Govs on Senior Night

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University women's soccer team set itself back with a 2-0 loss to Southeast Missouri, Friday, in Ohio Valley Conference action. The Lady Govs fell to 4-10-1 with a 1-3-1 OVC clip, while the Redhawks improved to 2-7-3 with a 1-3-2 league mark.

Both goals came early in the match. Southeast Missouri capitalized on an out-of-position defender in scoring its first goal. On a ball served from the right side of the field, the Redhawks packed into the box and the ball deflected off an Austin Peay player into the net, giving Southeast Missouri a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.

The second goal came fewer than five minutes later. Again, the Redhawks packed the box and an Austin Peay foul gave SEMO a penalty kick, straight on, from 10 yards out. Casey Kraft went top-shelf to beat the Austin Peay keeper and set the final margin.

On the night, Austin Peay's offense was not firing on all cylinders. In fact, the Lady Govs were outshot 12-6, while not getting a shot on goal. Senior Ashley Beck had four shots, but all of them either went high or wide. Sophomore keeper Carley Newman had four saves.

The Lady Govs return to action hosting Eastern Illinois in their season's final home match, a 2 p.m., Sunday affair.
