CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Drake Reed posted his second straight double-double, 22 points and 10 rebounds, as the Govs uprooted the Oakland City Mighty Oaks, 97-61, in non-conference basketball action played in Dave Aaron Arena.. Reed also became APSU's ninth player in school history to score more than 1,500 career points.
The victory snapped the Governors four-game losing streak while improving them to 6-6 overall. Oakland City, a Division II member of the National Christian College Athletic Association, saw its five-game winning streak halted as the Might Oaks fall to 5-6 overall.
The Governors, who never trailed in the contest, quickly dispatched the undermanned Might Oaks, who dressed only eight players. APSU held a 10-point lead just 5 1 ½ minutes into the game and were ahead 34-14 with 8:40 left in the half. In fact, by halftime all 12 APSU players had played. Reed had 13 points and Kyle Duncan nine as the Governors led 50-23 at the intermission. Reed's final bucket of the half, a layup with 6:25 left, gave him 1,500 career points. His double-double was his season's fourth and 14th of his career.
The Govs opened the second half outscoring Oakland City 19-8 to hold a 71-31 advantage and they led by as much as 42 points before APSU coach Dave Loos emptied the bench. Every Governor played at least 12 minutes and each player scored.
In addition to Reed, Kyle Duncan had 13 points as did Wes Channels. Duncan also had four assists and five steals. Freshman point guard Tyrone Caldwell added 10 points and five assists in his second consecutive start.
The Govs, who had shot less than 40 percent in each of its two previous games, finished the night 37 of 69 (53.6 percent). They also tallied a season-high 23 assists.
Brandon Hopf paced Oakland City with 17 points while Nathan Schumacher added 15.
