CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.
? Austin Peay State University's baseball team took advantage of several free
baserunners on its way to an 8-6 victory against Lipscomb, Tuesday night, at
Raymond C. Hand Park.
Austin Peay (6-5) scored all eight of its runs in the first
five innings as Lipscomb's pitchers permitted seven hits and seven walks in the
opening five frames. Third baseman   Tyler Farrar made the most of the early
opportunities with three RBI ? two on a second-inning single and the third on a
groundout in the third. The Govs scored four runs in that second inning and
added another two runs in the fourth ? the first scoring on a balk and the
second on Farrar's groundout.
Lipscomb (4-7) outhit Austin Peay, 12-9, but could not make
up for the free baserunners permitted by the pitchers. The Bisons scored solo
runs in the second, fourth, sixth and ninth frames and added a two-run third
inning. 
APSU's   Ryne Mantooth (2-0) picked up the victory after allowing
five runs (four earned) on 11 hits over 6.1 innings. Reliever   Matt Kole, who
started at first base, picked up his season's second save after allowing one
run over the final 2.2 innings. Kole also was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two
walks and a RBI. Farrar was 2-for-5 with three RBI and shortstop   Greg Bachman
chipped in two hits.
Lipscomb starter Mike Zenko (0-1) was tagged for the loss
after allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks over two
innings. Reliever Jordan Baron got off to a rough start but allowed only three
baserunners over the final three innings and finished with three runs allowed
(two earned) on four hits and five walks while striking out eight over the
final six innings. Blake Bratcher was one of five Bisons players with two hits,
posting a 2-for-5, 2 RBI effort.
Austin Peay returns to action with a 3 p.m., Wednesday,
contest against Belmont at Nashville's Greer Stadium.
