Lady Govs softball loses season finale to Tennessee Tech, 6-1

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Offense has been one of the nagging problems for the Austin Peay softball team this season and Sunday was no different, as the Lady Govs fell to Tennessee Tech 6-1 in an Ohio Valley Conference contest; which was also the regular-season finale for both teams.

Austin Peay (9-38, 3-23 OVC) only managed four hits against three Golden Eagle pitchers, while Tennessee Tech (28-28-1, 12-10 OVC) totaled 10 on the day.

Tennessee Tech would take the lead in the top of the second inning off Lady Govs starter Ashley Elrod on a two-out two-RBI single to left-center field by Anna Zdroik, driving in Amanda Glover and Blaes Schmissrauter.

The Golden Eagles would break the game open in the fourth scoring four times on six hits.

Kerilyn Monger opened the inning with a single, Lauren Jurgeluks pinch ran, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lacie Coquerille. She scored on a double by Zdroik.

Tennessee Tech would then get four consecutive singles after that from Beth Boden, Sarah Street, Stephanie Fisher and Satie Speiser, with Street driving in one and Speiser two.

Austin Peay had a chance in the bottom of the fifth inning to get back into the ball game, as the Lady Govs loaded the bases with no outs on back-to-back singles by Ashley Alverson and Daniella Hooper, followed by a walk to Brittany Williams.

Krista Henke followed by hitting into a fielder's choice, with the Golden Eagles getting Alverson out at the plate.

Pinch hitter Krista New then scored pinch runner Janea McCoy ? who had come in to run for Hooper ? on a sacrifice fly to left field, with the Golden Eagles getting Beth Carr out on strikes to end the threat.

Nether team threaten after that, as Tech went three up and three down in both the sixth and seventh, while the Lady Govs got lead off runners on in both innings, with Ashley Taylor being hit by a pitch and Hooper singling, but couldn't get anything going after that.

Street, Fisher and Zdroik had two hits each to lead Tennessee Tech.
