Lady Govs soccer rides momentum into Friday?s match with Chattanooga

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University women's soccer team carries the momentum of its season's first win into a 7 p.m., Friday, contest with Chattanooga at Morgan Bros. Soccer Field. The Lady Govs improved to 1-2 with a 2-0 win over Lipscomb, Sunday.

Austin Peay welcomed the return of senior Ashley Beck, who came off the bench to ignite the offense in Sunday's win. In fact, it took fewer than two minutes in the game for Beck to make her impact. She'll join freshman Alanna Foster (1g, 1a) and host of underclassmen highlighting the Lady Govs attack threat.

Sophomore keeper Carley Newman earned her first win playing all 90 minutes and recording two saves and the shutout against Lipscomb. Newman unseated junior keeper Michelle Smith, who allowed four goals in the first two games.

The Lady Mocs (0-2-1) are still looking for their season's first win as well as their season's first goal. A disappointing season-opening home stand saw Chattanooga fall to No. 13 Tennessee, 5-0, play to a scoreless tie with High Point, and then lose a 2-0 match to Eastern Kentucky. They have been outshot 58-13 and keeper Allie Preston has allowed all seven goals.

The all-time series between the two teams stands even at 1-1 with the home team winning each time. Chattanooga won, 3-1, in 2002 and Austin Peay won, 3-1, in 2006.
