CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University women's soccer team failed to muster any offense, losing to Chattanooga, 1-0, Friday at Morgan Bros. Soccer Field. It was the season's first win for Chattanooga, who improved to 1-2-1, while the Lady Govs fell to 1-3.
It all came down to one shot and the Lady Mocs pulled it off. For a team that had not scored a goal going into Friday's game, Chattanooga managed to stay near their end for much of the game. Caroline DeRhodes got a pass off to D.K. Henry in the box and Henry punched it in for the game's only goal in 79th minute.
Henry led Chattanooga with six shots, four on goal. Chelsea Hurst and Marlee Jenkins each fired two shots for the Lady Mocs.
Austin Peay, who played without senior Ashley Beck, struggled to find a positive offensive possession throughout the game. Elyse Lovelace managed six shots and Jocelyn Murdoch, two shots, but the rest of the game was defensive for the Lady Govs. Junior Lauren Moon anchored the defense, allowing 13 shots with only six reaching the goal. Sophomore keeper Carley Newman made four stops, but allowed the game's only goal.
The Lady Govs return to action on the road with a 5:30 p.m., Sunday, contest at Evansville. Austin Peay is 0-3 all-time against the Purple Aces.
