Struggling Govs ice cold at Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Austin Peay shot 34 percent from the field, losing a first-place battle at Morehead State, 81-63, Saturday. Drake Reed was the Govs only double-digit scorer, finishing with 20 points.

The Govs fall to 12-9 with an 8-3 Ohio Valley Conference record while Morehead State improves to 13-10 with a 9-2 league mark.

The teams traded baskets over the much of the first half, but the Govs last lead came at the 5:31 mark, 27-25, on an Anthony Campbell three-pointer. From that point, the Eagles ripped a 17-2 run to end the half. Austin Peay went to the locker room stunned and trailing 42-29.

In the second half, the Govs never found their bearings. In fact, after four straight points by Reed the Govs were as close as they would get, 12 points, 45-33 with 18:28 to play. Morehead State held a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Austin Peay shot 21 of 61 from the field, including 2 of 18 from the three-point line, for the game. Tyrone Caldwell finished with nine points, while John Fraley and Wes Channels each added eight points. The Govs were led in rebounding by Reed's six.

The Eagles, meanwhile, finished with five guys in double figures, led by Maze Stallworth with 22 and Kenneth Faried with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
