NOTABLY

THEY'RE BACK

While the roster features 10 new faces ahead of the 96th season of Austin Peay basketball, the Governors are one of just three teams nationwide to return a pair of all-conference selections from last season in sophomore Zyree Collins and senior Rashaud Marshall. The 2026 ASUN Freshman of the Year, a Third Team All-ASUN selection, unanimous selection to the ASUN All-Freshman Team, and a two-time ASUN Player of the Week last season, Collins ranked 21st in the NCAA with 2.13 steals per game, while his 4.3 assists per game also paced the Govs and ranked fourth in the conference last season. Collins was the first Austin Peay freshman to win both Freshman of the Year and All-Conference honors since 2022. A Second Team All-ASUN recipient and ASUN All-Tournament honoree in 2026, Marshall's 65.6 field-goal percentage during his junior season ranked sixth in the NCAA and second in program history. The big man also led the Govs with 93 offensive rebounds, 212 total rebounds, 6.8 rebounds per game, 28 blocks, and 132 free throws, while his 16.3 points per game ranked fifth in the ASUN and second on APSU.

GIP AT THE PEAY, SEASON FOUR

A two-time Austin Peay alumnus and a former student-athlete (2002-04), graduate assistant (2004-05), and assistant coach (2012-15) for the Governors, head coach Corey Gipson returns for his fourth season at the helm of his alma mater. Gipson, who signed a contract extension through the 2029-30 season over the offseason, led the Govs to the 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference Regular-Season Championship. It was APSU's first championship since the 2016 OVC Tournament and the first regular-season championship since 2008. Gipson became just the second APSU alum to lead the Govs to a conference title and the first since George Fisher and the Govs won the 1963 Volunteer State Athletic Conference Championship in the season prior to the Austin Peay being elevated to Division I. The Governors' 22 wins and 15 conference wins during the 2025-26 season were tied for the most since the 2007-08 season, while the 21 regular-season wins were tied for the most since the 1976-77 season.

A RECORD OFFSEASON

Austin Peay head coach Corey Gipson announced the highest-ranked recruiting class in the history of the athletics department. Gipson's class featured a pair of transfers and a record eight freshman additions. The class ranked top 70 natioanlly. No team in the United Athletic Conference ranked in the top 150 by either metric. Gipson also signed the top three recruits in program history. Felipe Minzer was tabbed the #141 recruit by Rivals, the highest ranking of any incoming freshman in program history. Bradley Floyd was ranked #188 nationally by 247Sports – the highest-rated recruit by the organization – and a top 10 player in North Carolina by all metrics. Cam Ryans, was the #1 recruit out of Michigan and ranked #231 by 247Sports.
