CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Junior left-hander Jeremy Dobbs tossed a steller performance to lead the White team a 7-3 victory in Game 2 of Austin Peay State University baseball team's Red-White World Series, Friday, at Raymond C. Hand Park.
After a Thrusday night where walks and clutch hitting hurt the White squad, Dobbs shut the door, holding the Red team to two runs in five innings. That effort allowed his team to jump out to a lead and never look back.
"Jeremy pitched really well tonight," head coach Gary McClure said. "Jeremy was having trouble getting his off-speed pitches over and had to rely on his fastball, which makes his performance even more impressive. He competed really well for our team and we needed it to even up this series."
The White squad put the pressure on in the first as freshman leadoff hitter Dylan Riner walked, followed by sophomore Cody Hudson's single. The blow of the inning came from redshirt junior third baseman Greg Bachman who scorched a two-run triple into the left-center gap scoring both Riner and Hudson. Bachman later scored on a double by freshman P.J. Torres.
"Bachman's double in the first was huge for us," McClure said. "He had two strikes on him with two outs and he got a pitch up in the zone to hit. Bachman is that kind of player and that's the kind of performance we are going to need from him throughout the year."
Bachman led the White team with a 2-for-4, three-RBI outing, including a double and triple.
Senior pitcher Eric Davis took the loss for the Red team after allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out three over four-plus innings.
The five-game series -which is tied 1-1- continues with a 11 a.m., Saturday contest. Admission is free and open to the general public.
