Box Score MARTIN - Austin Peay State University women's
soccer team lost its second-straight Ohio Valley Conference match, 1-0, at UT
Martin, Friday afternoon.
It also was the second shutout suffered by
the Lady Govs this season which is uncharacteristic of a team that has led the
league in goals scored through non-conference play. Watching the Lady Govs take
back-to-back 1-0 losses, head coach Kelley Guth was left disappointed.
"It was a battle the whole match," Guth said,
"just like every conference match is going to be. The fact is, our offense has
to step up and get it done."
While Austin Peay was on-target throughout
the match, putting five of its seven shots on goal, Skyhawk keeper Lauren
Mackenzie was perfect in making five saves. Lady Govs senior Hannah Jones put
the first shot on goal after Skyhawk foul in the fourth minute. Sophomore
Jocelyn Murdoch would put another on frame in the 17th minute, but
Mackenzie again made the stop.
UT Martin used a barrage of shots to score
the game's only goal. Jenni Duffy followed her own corner kick with a shot off APSU keeper Carley Newman, which was
quickly put back by Mary Thompson and deflected again off Newman. A third shot
by Katie Imperiale, who entered the game only two minutes prior, found the back
of the net.
The Lady Govs put five more shots at
Mackenzie in the second half, but nothing made it through. Murdoch, along with
freshman Joceline Quiceno each had two shots on goal, while Jones along with
freshmen Emily Kink and Tatiana Ariza also added shots.
Austin Peay returns to action with a 2 p.m.,
Sunday game at Murray State.
