MEMPHIS - Austin Peay women's tennis team was blanked in a pair of Saturday matches, losing 4-0 to Samford in the morning followed a 4-0 loss to Memphis in the nightcap.
Riding high after wins over Belmont and Evansville, the Lady Govs struggled to find a groove against Samford in the morning. The Lady Bulldogs took the doubles point and ran through the Lady Govs bottom three singles with ease. The top three singles matches did not play to a finish.
Senior Yuki Nakamura played the Lady Govs closest match, losing (6-2, 6-3), at No. 6 singles against Samford.
It was more of the same against Memphis. This time senior Mariana Pagan and sophomore Vanja Tomic lost a close match at No. 1 doubles, 8-5, to Memphis' Ashley Murdock and Marjorie Ondeck to set the stage for a hard fought singles competition. Senior Michelle Liew lost, what would become the deciding match, in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles to Amanda Brown (4-6,6-2,7-6).
Freshman Carolin Weikard dropped lost (7-5, 6-3) at No. 2 singles as well for the Lady Govs.
Austin Peay women's tennis team returns to the courts for a 1 p.m., Saturday, match against Alabama A&M.
