NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay men's tennis team used a strong doubles performance and a key tiebreaker win by Amar Subasic to pick up a 4-3 win, Tuesday, at Lipscomb.
The Govs won the doubles point and survived a three-set match at No. 4 singles to pick up the win.
Freshman Amar Subasic played a tight third set and ended up with a tiebreaker win at No. 4 to seal the match. After winning the first set, Subasic allowed Joe McArdle to take a 7-5 win in the second. McArdle played Subasic to a 7-6 count, before a Subasic won the tiebreaker.
"Amar was four down in the third set," head coach Malik Tabet said. "He got back on track and ended up in a tiebreaker.
"I thought we played very good doubles at 1 and 3. We struggled at the bottom of the lineup, but Amar was able to pull it off. It was a good match for us. Lipscomb is a very good team."
The other Govs win came at No. 1 singles by freshman Sean Bailey and No. 3 singles by freshman Henrique Norbiato. Norbiato is undefeated at No. 3 singles with a 4-0 record.
On the doubles side, it was a case of three closely played matches. Bailey and Norbiato won 8-6 at No. 1, while senior Leonardo Locatelli and freshman John Storie won 8-5 at No. 3. Bailey and Norbiato improved to 4-2 at No. 1 doubles win the win.
