Strong doubles play continues in Lady Govs tennis win

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Austin Peay women's tennis team picked up a Saturday non-conference win, 5-2, at SIU Edwardsville.

It was the last non-conference match for the Lady Govs as they play their season finale, Sunday, at Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Illinois. The win also stretched the Lady Govs win streak to 10 matches, dating back to a March 6 loss at Jacksonville State.

Austin Peay won the doubles point for the eighth time during the 10-match win streak.  No. 1 doubles team of Vanja Tomic and Mariana Pagan picked up their ninth-straight win, while Carolin Weikard and Yuki Nakamura won their sixth straight and improve to 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Winning the doubles point built the momentum for the Lady Govs to continue their strong singles play led by the top four seeds. Tomic won her 14th straight match at No. 1 singles and Weikard won her 10th straight at No. 2. Pagan, meanwhile, improved to 14-2 at No. 3 singles with a straight-set win. Michelle Liew also won in straight sets at No. 4.

Austin Peay closes it season with an 11 a.m., Sunday, match at Eastern Illinois.
