COOKEVILLE
- Austin Peay State University's baseball team fell behind early and was unable
to mount a come-from-behind effort in its 10-2 Ohio Valley Conference loss to
Tennessee Tech, Sunday, at Bush Stadium.
Tennessee
Tech (23-21, 9-5 OVC) scored six runs in the first three innings and never
looked back, tacking on four runs in the seventh inning to secure the victory.
Right fielder Cassanova Donaldson's two-run single provided the first inning's
big blow and catcher Ben Burgess' solo home run was the third inning's lone
run. Burgess added a two-run single in the seventh inning.
Austin
Peay (22-22, 4-11) scratched out a run in the fifth and another run in the
seventh, but could not solve the Golden Eagle pitching duo of Tristan Archer
and Chason Choate.
Archer
(3-1) held the Govs to one run over the first five-plus innings, surrendering
six hits while striking out five. Choate picked up his season's first save
after allowing one run over the final four innings.
Govs
starter Stephen Huff (4-5) settled in after the first three innings and retired
nine consecutive batters between the fourth and seventh innings. He allowed
eight runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
Austin
Peay returns to action with a 3 p.m., Tuesday, non-conference doubleheader at
Evansville.
