Box Score CLARSKVILLE, Tenn. - The sister connection
paid off for the Austin Peay State University Lady Govs soccer team in a 1-0
win against Valparaiso, Sunday afternoon.
This time it was Joceline Quiceno to Andy Quiceno for the game-winner in the 49th minute. It was Andy's third
goal and Joceline's third assist of the season. Andy has either a goal or an
assist in seven of the Lady Govs 10 games this season.
The win improved the Lady Govs to 8-2 overall
and 5-0 at home throughout the non-conference season. Throughout the win
streak, Austin Peay has scored 11 goals while the defense has been perfect in
shutting out the visitors. The Lady Govs have outshot opponents 84-26,
including 43-12 shots-on-goal advantage.
Valparaiso (4-3-2) was a quality opponent,
Sunday, in limiting the Lady Govs to only 11 shots. In fact, after the first
half, the Crusaders seemed to have control of the match, outshooting Austin
Peay 4-3, including two shots on goal. Lady Govs keeper Carley Newman, however,
came up with two big stops to keep the match scoreless at the break.
The second half saw Austin Peay come out with
an increased intensity. Twice in the first three minutes, Austin Peay pushed
the Crusaders defense back, but could only manage a deflected cross. But in the
49th minute, the Lady Govs pressured into the right corner and a
crisp pass from Joceline to a cutting Andy for what would become the match's only
score.
Austin Peay returns to action with a 7 p.m,
Friday, Ohio Valley Conference match against Eastern Illinois.
