FRANKFORT, Ky. – Junior Geofrey Kosgei posted his season's first victory and Austin Peay State University men's cross country team had all five runners post top-10 finishes for its season's first victory, Friday, at the Thorobreds Stampede hosted by Kentucky State.
The Gosv were without lead runner Boniface Yator but still pulled out a team victory at the Thorobread Classic. The Govs
took home the event's top three spots and five of the top-ten spots en route to the victory.
Last week junior Geofrey Kosgei ran what head coach Doug Molnar called his best race of the season. He topped that performance
with a winning time of 29:41.46 over the eight-kilometer distance. The victory was also the first
individual victory for a Govs runner this season.
Following Kosgei was sophomore Tyler Kepley in
second place (30:58.71), sophomore Genaro Martinez in third place (31:36.54),
Konnor Kessler in fifth place (32:42.51), and freshman David Frattarelli placed
ninth (33:44.12).
After losing to every other Ohio Valley Conference member at
last week's Greater Louisville Cross Classic, the Governors defeated their only
other OVC competition, Tennessee State finishing a team average 1:43 faster
than TSU.
The Govs will hit the course again next
Saturday at the Fast Cats Classic in Owensboro, Ky. before the Ohio Valley
Conference Championships Oct. 25.
