Hanley named Second-Team All-OVC

BRENTWOOD – Junior guard Whitney Hanley of Austin Peay State University women's basketball was named second-team All-Ohio Valley Conference, the league office announced, Tuesday.

Hanley, of Mt. Washington, Ky., led the Lady Govs in OVC play, averaging 11.3 points per game. She also was ranked among the league's leaders in scoring (17th), steals (10th, 1.5 pg), three-point field goals made (6th, 2.0 pg) and blocked shots (8th, 0.8 pg). Hanley also was second on the team in rebounds (5.6 pg) and assists (2.5 pg).

“Whitney is very deserving of all-conference recognition,” said Lady Govs head coach Carrie Daniels. “Whitney has improved her game in every aspect during her career, but especially on the defensive end where she has become our stopper. She has become the epitome of an all-around player. Whitney doesn't score 20 points a game, which probably hurts her when it comes time to distribute awards, but she leads our well-balanced offensive attack.”

A critical component of the Lady Govs 6-1 mark during February, Hanley led the team in scoring in each of the month's first four games. In fact, her top three scoring performances in OVC play came during the Lady Govs month-opening five-game win streak, including a 19-point effort against Murray State, Feb. 5.

Hanley enters the OVC Tournament leading APSU in scoring (12.4 ppg), three-point field goals made (2.0 pg) and steals (1.6 pg). She has been the team's scoring leader 11 times this season and its leading rebounder eight times. Hanley also has recorded three double-doubles during the campaign.

Hanley becomes the 18th Lady Govs player to receive second-team All-OVC recognition.
