CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State University's softball team will open it home schedule, 2 p.m., Wednesday, when it welcomes Trevecca to Cheryl Holt Field for a doubleheader.
This will be the first meeting between the two schools since the 1995 season, with Austin Peay holding a 4-0 all-time advantage in the series.
The Lady Govs come into the doubleheader sporting a 2-4 overall record, including a split with Jackson State, Monday.
Offensively, Austin Peay is led by sophomore Lauren deCastro, who enters with a .412 batting average - including a home run and seven RBI - with senior Catie Cozart (.364) and freshman Sarah Rasmussen (.357) also hitting more than .350 after the season's first six games. Freshman Lauren Bradley (.300) rounds out Lady Govs hitting .300 or better.
In the circle, deCastro and junior Morgan Brewer have Austin Peay's two wins this season, with deCastro coming off a three-hit shutout of Jackson State in Monday's first game.
Overall, deCastro has a 1.56 ERA and eight strikeouts in nine innings (6.2 per game) of work so far this spring.
Trevecca comes into the doubleheader with a 2-0 over mark after sweeping Tennessee Wesleyan in Nashville, 3-2 and 4-2, Monday to open its season.
