Box Score CLARKSVILLE - Third baseman Greg Bachman had two home runs
and four RBI as Austin Peay State University stormed past Akron, 14-4, Sunday
in the Riverview Inn Classic finale at Raymond C. Hand Park.
Austin Peay (7-3) completed a three-game sweep of the
round-robin tournament. Iowa, which won a wild affair in Sunday's first game,
finished second followed by Akron and Youngstown State.
Bachman opened the day's scoring with a two-run home run in
the first and pushed the Govs lead to 4-0 with a solo blast in the fourth. They
were his fourth and fifth home runs this season.
Austin Peay broke the game open in the fifth, sending 10 men
to the plate and scoring six runs. Outfielder Rolando Gautier opened the inning
with a leadoff home run and later added a RBI single. Later, Bachman notched
his fourth RBI in the inning with a single. Catcher P.J. Torres and first
baseman Matt Wollenzin also had RBI in the inning.
Starting pitcher Casey Delgado (2-1) made the most of Austin
Peay's largest offensive output this season. He notched his season's second win,
limiting Akron to three runs (two earned) on six hits over seven innings.
Akron (1-8) had little success against the Govs pitching
staff, scoring four runs on nine hits. Center fielder Devan Ahart and first
baseman Sam Trecaso each had two hits and an RBI to lead the Zips offense.
Bachman's 4-for-5, four RBI, two home run outing highlighted
the Govs 14-run, 18-hit offensive performance. Left fielder Jon Clinard and
second baseman Jordan Hankins each had three hits while Torres, Gautier and
designated hitter Brett Carlson each added two hits.
Akron starter Pat Dyer (0-1) suffered the loss after
allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and five walks over four innings.
Austin Peay returns to action when it travels to Alabama
A&M for a 3 p.m., Tuesday contest in Huntsville, Ala.
