Post-Game Notes: APSU vs. Samford

  • The loss to Samford snapped a two-game Govs winning streak in the series, leaving them with a 15-7 overall margin.
  • Dave Loos is now 1-1 against Samford coach Bennie Seltzer.
  • After shooting below 50 percent from the free-throw line over the season's first two games, the Govs now have shot 70 percent or better in five of the last seven contests, including a 29-of-37 effort against Samford, That 78.7 percent performance tied for the Govs' season best.
  • The Govs shot a season-low 28.1 percent (16 of 57). In fact, the only other time they have been below 40 percent (38.7 percent) was against Cal State Northridge.
  • The Governors not only out-rebounded Samford 38-36—only the third time APSU has held the rebounding edge this season—but they also permitted only single-digit offensive rebounds for the first time this season.
  • Sophomore guard Zavion Williams was credited with five steals against Samford, an Austin Peay career high. He once had six for Lipscomb against Gardner-Webb in the 2011-12 season.
  • With 11 points and 10 rebounds, sophomore center Chris Horton now has four double-doubles this season.
  • With this team-high 10 rebounds—nine coming in the first half—Chris Horton now has led or co-led the Governors in rebounds in all nine games this season.
  • With 19 more turnovers, the Governors now have committed 16 or more turnovers in seven of nine games this season.
  • With 12 thefts against Samford, the Governors have reached double-digit steals twice this season. They had 14 steals in their loss at Memphis in mid-November.
