Lady Govs golf tied for eighth after two rounds at EKU

RICHMOND, Ky. – Austin Peay State University women's golf team is tied for eighth place after two rounds of the EKU Colonel Classic, Friday, being played at the 5,809-yard Arlington Club.

The tourney's opening round was delayed by frost. As a result, the early part of the day was played in cold temperature. The Lady Govs shot an opening-round 317 but bounced back with a stronger second round of 312. The 629 score has APSU tied with Western Kentucky and Dayton.

Toledo led after the first day with a 596 total, followed by host Eastern Kentucky (608) and Bowling Green  (613).

It was a good-news, bad-news day for the Lady Govs. Senior Tabitha Beard played perhaps her best golf of the season, shooting 75-79 for a 154 total and a 12th-place tie. Sophomore Meghan Mueller continued her spring of improved play by shooting 80-75 for a 155 total, tying her 21st place.

Senior Lauren Bond boasted her spring's best round by shooting a second-round 77 for a 160 total. Sophomore Rachel Deaton also is at 160 after shooting 79-81.

The bad news was freshman Jessica Cathey, the Lady Govs' top golfer all year, struggled from the tee all day long, shooting an uncharacteristic 85-84 for 169.

Playing as individuals, junior Tala Mumford finished the two rounds at 158 (80-78) while Holly Batey was at 167 (86-81).

The tourney's final round will be played Saturday.
