CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Austin Peay will close out the 2014-15 season when it travels to Southeast Missouri for a 6 p.m., Saturday, Ohio Valley Conference contest at the Show Me Center.
The contest will have little on the line for both teams. The Governors were eliminated from the OVC tourney race a week ago and SEMO earned the final spot in the OVC tournament, Thursday, without even playing
With Jacksonville State losing, 63-57, at Eastern Kentucky Thursday, Murray State, Eastern Kentucky, Belmont, UT Martin, Eastern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville, Morehead State and Southeast are the teams headed to Nashville, Tenn., for next week's OVC tournament.
APSU, meanwhile, will attempt to end 2015 on a two-game winning streak. The Governors defeated SIU Edwardsville, 64-61, Thursday to earn their first February victory. On Senior Night, Chris Freeman scored a career-high 24 points in his final Govs' home appearance—with his mother, Thelma, in the stands.
In addition, senior guards Damarius Smith and Ed Dyson also came up big in the final minute, including nailing crucial free throws.
Although Freeman and the seniors were the big story for the Govs in the win, almost as much was Chris Horton's rebounding. A stat glitch Thursday night forced APSU sports information crew to redo the stats from game video. Horton, as it turns out, had a career-high 20 rebounds against SIUE, the most by a Gov since Ty Beck had 22 in the 1994 season.
For SEMO, senior forward Jarekious Bradley is one of the OVC's top all-around players, averaging 15.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.. Center Nino Johnson averages 10.8 points and 7.2 rpg while shooting an impressive 54 percent from the floor. Guard Antonius Cleveland averages 10.7 ppg.
