Player of the Game: Garrett Copeland (2-for-3, 2B, R)
Austin Peay (9-5, 3-1 OVC) snaps a five-game winning streak and takes its first loss in Ohio Valley Conference play.
The Governors recorded two runs on five hits in the contest, and were unable to keep up with the Gamecocks who pulled away for a 8-2 victory. It's the fewest amount of hits in a single game this season for APSU.
Jacksonville State struck first in the opening frame, and went up 3-0 before APSU got its first run across in the seventh. Through six innings, the Govs recorded just one hit against JSU starter Zachary Fowler.
Sophomore Alex Robles took the loss for APSU, allowing three runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
THE LINEUP
Patrick Massoni… Massoni went 0-for-4 at the plate with two strikeouts.
Cayce Bredlau… Bredlau reached base once via a walk, but finished o-for-3 on the night.
Logan Gray… The sophomore was 0-for-3 on Saturday with three strikeouts.
Dre Gleason… Gleason put the ball in play three times, but resulted in an 0-for-4 day with one strikeout.
Garrett Copeland… Copeland was the only Gov with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.
Ridge Smith… The catcher tripled in the seventh inning, driving in a run, and later scored.
Alex Robles… Robles extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a RBI double in the seventh.
Chase Hamilton… Starting in center field, Hamilton went 0-for-3 at the plate.
Clayton Smithson… Smithson was 1-for-3 thanks to an eighth inning single.
Josh Wilson… Wilson had a pinch-hit appearance in the eighth inning, and flied out to center field.
T.J. Marik… Marik entered as a defensive replacement at catcher in the ninth.
ON THE MOUND
Austin Peay pitchers allowed eight runs on 14 hits on the day.
Alex Robles now falls to 0-1 on the season. The right-hander was then replaced by freshman John Sparks, who pitched 1.2 innings with three hits and three unearned runs.
Senior Kacy Kemmer pitched one inning, allowing two runs to come across, before exiting the game due to injury. Michael Costanzo pitched the final half inning.
