Player of the Game: Garrett Copeland (6-for-6, HR, 2B, 3 RBI, 4 R)
Austin Peay (16-13) defeated Middle Tennessee 14-12 in a game which featured 14 hits by both teams.
Garrett Copeland made history on Wednesday, becoming the first Governor to ever go 6-for-6 in a game. It's also the first time a player has recorded six hits in a single contest since Chad Cunningham in 2008.
Despite allowing MTSU to put up a six spot in the top of the seventh, the Govs answered back in the bottom half with seven runs to take a 14-9 lead. The Blue Raiders scored three runs in the eighth, but wasn't enough as APSU held on for the victory.
Freshman John Sparks earned the win, going 1.2 innings with three runs allowed (two earned) and two strikeouts.
THE LINEUP
Cayce Bredlau… Bredlau went 1-for-4 on the day with a run scored and walked once.
Chase Hamilton… In six plate appearances, Hamilton was 1-for-6, a home run to left field to leadoff the third inning. It's his third of the year.
Garrett Copeland… The star of the game had four singles, a double, and home run to improve his batting average to .375.
Logan Gray… The sophomore went 2-for-4 against MTSU with a RBI and three runs scored.
Alex Robles… Robles had one hit – a single in the third – while also scoring twice in the contest.
Josh Wilson… The right fielder picked up a RBI with a bases loaded walk, finishing 0-for-1 on the day.
Dre Gleason… Gleason went 0-for-3, but did knock in a run and scored once.
T.J. Marik… Starting at catcher, Marik was 0-for-1 with a walk.
Imani Willis… The shortstop went 1-for-3 with a run scored to go along with a pair of walks.
Patrick Massoni… Massoni entered as a pinch hitter and played right field, going 1-for-3 with a RBI single.
Ridge Smith… Smith was inserted to play catcher, and went 1-for-2 with a two RBI single in the seventh.
Caleb Mitchell… Mitchell followed Smith in the line of catchers, but did not have a plate appearance.
ON THE MOUND
Austin Peay pitchers surrendered 12 runs on 14 hits, with five different names toeing the bump for APSU.
Jared Carkuff started the game for APSU, going four innings with six hits and three runs (two earned) allowed. He was replaced by Michael Costanzo, who gave up three runs on two hits in two innings of work.
After a brief appearance by Keirce Kimbel (0.0 IP, H, 2 ER, BB), John Sparks was granted the lead and picked up his second win of the season. Zach Walton was the final man to take the mound, going 1.1 innings with one run coming across.
