CLARKSVILLE – With their place in the postseason secured, Austin Peay State University women's basketball team looks to finish the season strong with a midweek matchup 7 p.m., at SIU Edwardsville.
The Govs head into the final week of the regular season with 15 wins, the most regular season wins since the 2003-04 season, when the Govs posted a 23-8 record. Austin Peay (15-12, 8-8 OVC) is jockeying for position in the Ohio Valley Conference standings, looking to maintain their sixth place bid with a win over the Cougars.
Last week the Govs played two one-point games, topping Tennessee Tech with a thrilling fourth quarter comeback that saw the Governors outscore the Golden Eagles 19-14 in the final period, before dropping a nail biter against Jacksonville State.
The Govs are looking for their first win on the road against SIU Edwardsville in the Midlick era. Austin Peay split the two meetings between the teams last year with a dominant 23-point win at home January 11, 2017 before dropping a close matchup with the Cougars Feb. 15, 2017.
The Governors are facing a Cougar squad that is currently third in the OVC standings, looking to break a two-game losing streak that knocked them off their second place pedestal. With both teams safely in OVC Tournament play, the focus is on finishing strong and securing a strong position to make a postseason push.
