CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University men's tennis team was defeated in its home opener, 6-1, by Southern Utah, Saturday, at the Governors Tennis Center.

The Governors (0-2) got two wins from Almantas Ozelis, but could not build on his momentum.

The Thunderbirds (1-0) got the opening win at No. 3 doubles, but Ozelis and his partner Anton Damberg responded with a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles. However, Southern Utah won the doubles point with a clutch win at No. 2 doubles.

Ozelis ended up winning his match at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, but Southern Utah won at No. 2, 3, and 5 singles to clinch the match. Damberg won the first set of his match, 7-5, but unfortunately fell in three sets in a tightly contested match.

The Govs stay at home and take on Lipscomb next Friday.
