Postgame Notes | #22 Govs at Murray State

  • With a win over Murray State, the Governors will be playing for the Ohio Valley Conference title and an automatic berth to the FCS Playoffs next Saturday.
  • With 407 yards of total offense, the Governors offense set the single-season record for total offense – previously held by the 2017 team, with 4,646 yards of offense – this season the Govs had amassed 4,668 yards of total offense.

SERIES UPDATE

  • Austin Peay beat Murray State for the third straight season and the 18th time overall.
  • Murray State leads, 36-18, in a series that started in 1953.
  • Austin Peay's three game winning streak over Murray State is the Govs longest streak in the series since they won five-straight games from 1964 to 1968.

SGT. YORK TROPHY UPDATE

  • Austin Peay finished its 2019 Sgt. York Trophy schedule with a 2-1 record.
  • Because of UT Martin's win over Tennessee State the Governors will retain the Sgt. York Trophy for the 2019 season, but they will share the yearly title with at least UT Martin and possibly Tennessee State – if TSU can beat Tennessee Tech in the final week of the season.

OFFENSIVE SPARKS

  • DeAngelo Wilson broke the Austin Peay single-season receiving yards record, previously held by Lanis Frederick (1,101 yards in 2006), with 1,184 yards on the season.  
  • JaVaughn Craig broke the Austin Peay single-season total yards record. With 2,822 yards of total offense this year, Craig passed Brian Baker, who had 2,695 yards in 1999.
  • Prince Momodu is the fourth Governor to rush for multiple touchdowns in a game this season – joining Craig, Kentel Williams, and Ahmad Tanner.
  • Momodu ran for a career-high 93 yards and two touchdowns.

DEFENSIVE STANDS

  • Josephus Smith's 1.5 tackles for a loss today gives him 16.5 on the season, the sixth-best single-season mark in program history – he is only 2.5 TFL away from matching the single-season program record.
  • Shaun Whittinghill led the Governors with 2.5 tackles for loss, he also added a sack – it is the fifth time in the last six games that Whittinghill has recorded a sack.
  • The Governors held Murray State to 39 rushing yards, recording 11 tackles for a loss.
  • Kordell Jackson scored his third defensive touchdown of the season, this time Jackson had a 2 yard scoop and score for a touchdown on a fumble recovery.

SPECIAL TEAMS SPRINTS

  • Devin Stuart punted four times today, giving him 45 attempts this season, and he has yet to put a ball into the endzone.
