GOVS-BUCCANEERS POSTGAME NOTES

  • DeAngelo Wilson tied the Govs single-game season best with nine receptions and set the Govs single-game season mark with 137 receiving yards in Johnson City.
  • Austin Peay finishes the first four games with a 2-2 record for the third consecutive season.

CAPTAINS/COIN TOSS

SERIES UPDATE                                            

  • Austin Peay and ETSU met for the 29th time, but for the first time since 1978.
  • ETSU's win snapped the Govs four-game win streak in the series.
  • The Govs saw their three-game unbeaten streak in Johnson City come to an end, ETSU downing the Govs at home for the first time since 1972.

OFFENSIVE SPARKS

  • DeAngelo Wilson collected his third 100-yard receiving game this season, finishing with a season-best 137 yards on nine catches. He also caught his fourth touchdown pass of the season.
  • Austin Peay scored on its opening drive for the second consecutive weekend. JaVaughn Craig leading a 5-play, 90-yard touchdown drive.
  • ETSU's sack of JaVaughn Craig in the third quarter was the first sack surrendered by the Govs offensive line in 2019. They opened the season with 276 consecutive plays from scrimmage without allowing a sack.

DEFENSIVE STANDS                                         

  • Juantarius Bryant's 13 tackles were the most by an Austin Peay tackler this season.
  • Jack McDonald became the fourth different Governors defender to recover a fumble this season. He also picked off a pass in the third quarter.
  • Austin Peay's defense forced a turnover for the third consecutive game. It was their third straight game with a fumble recovery and second straight game with an interception.

THIRD DOWN TAKEDOWNS

  • ETSU converted 7-of-17 (41.2 percent) of its third-down opportunities against the Govs. After four games, the Govs have allowed a 37.0 percent conversion rate (20-of-54). Entering the game, Austin Peay was ranked 54th nationally in third-down conversion defense.
  • The Bucs faced 3rd-and-long (more than six yards) on eight third-down chances, the Govs allowing two conversions. The Govs have forced 3rd-and-long 43 times this season and have allowed only 10 conversions (23.3 percent).

SPECIAL TEAMS SPRINTS

  • Logan Birchfield missed a 44-yard field goal in the first quarter – it was only his second miss this season, both coming from more than 40 yards. He is 1-3 on attempts of 40-plus yards.
  • Devin Stuart had a busy evening, averaging 36.7 yards on his six punts. He placed three consecutive punts inside the ETSU 20-yard line and the Bucs average starting field position after his punts was their own 20-yard line.
