Got some spare thoughts from Friday's practice session just as soon as I finish a Happy Meal race against Seth Johnson

  • Eugene Minter opened this session with one of the best catches in double-coverage I've ever seen. That's how you start Friday.
  • Perhaps this is pedantic but I wouldn't know what to do with a lion if I caught it.
  • When Bryce Robinson got hit on a dropback, Scotty Walden exploded. I'm sure I've seen him angrier, but I can't think of when. You do not hit the quarterback.
  • Luke Springer did a fancy, Trea Turner-esque slide to recover a fumble on punt coverage. Would love to see the crowd response to that in a game.
  • Geordon Pollard has added some burst to his step.
  • Kordell Jackson. Baniko Harley. Kam Thomas? The freshman speedster is the latest Ramsay High product to come to Clarksville and he may already be a touch faster than his predecessors.
  • Minter hauled in another fantastic catch in the end zone nearest the field suites. Reminder: that's the same guy who finished tied for third in receptions and fourth in receiving yards a year ago.
  • Bowling Green State transfer Joe Ware looks bigger than his listed 6-3, 309 pound-frame and much more nimble than his size would suggest.
  • Memphis transfer Sheldon Layman stepped into every throw with confidence today. The top four on this depth chart at quarterback each probably could have started under center as recently as seven years ago, which falls under the subhead of, "a good problem to have."
  • Nothing to see here, just Michael Treadwell standing off by himself cutting a rug to Beastie Boys "Sabotage." AS ONE DOES.
  • Freshman Tae Gayden got deep and got loose between Jackson, Isaiah Norman and Denver Parker and made a nice over-the-shoulder catch with plenty of room to run. I'm willing to keep an eye on anyone who can do that.
  • Whatever first move CJ Evans Jr. decides to deploy in space is going to make the first man miss. Guaranteed.
  • Hot-Day Hoodie Tally: four, and five if you count Bryan McCann's sleeveless hoodie look. Mark Powell is a trendsetter.
  • Not sure who was happier about a Brandon Lanier touchdown catch: Lanier or tight ends coach Brian Baca.
  • As practice ends and everyone huddles up, from up high it looks like a smaller group of people than it does when you're down in the thick of it. The assemblage covers the Gov at midfield, but not much more. It's a big group, but not massive. It's a tight-knit group that's pulling together and pulling for one another. That's a strong building block for success.
